On June 12th – Thank a Teacher Day – the initial results of the UK wide Pearson Teaching Awards are announced. Selected from thousands of nominations just 60 celebrations are taking place in schools and colleges across England, Ireland and Wales at which prestigious Silver Pearson Teaching Awards are presented to outstanding local heroes of education. The Pearson Teaching Awards are an annual celebration of exceptional teachers and teaching, founded in 1999 by Lord Puttnam, they recognize the life-changing impact of an inspirational teacher on the lives of the young people they teach.

The Silver Plato winners of The Clevertouch Award for Outstanding Use of Technology in Education are Jennifer Bruce of Churchill Community College, Mike Abel of Hull College, Jose Picardo of Surbiton High School and Rory Lees-Oakes of Warrington Collegiate.

All 60 Silver Teaching Award winners will now go through to the UK wide final of the Pearson Teaching Awards to be held at London’s Royal Opera House, Covent Garden on 18th October, where 10 Silver Award winners will receive a Gold Plato Award. The ceremony, titled “Britain’s Classroom Heroes”, will be filmed and broadcast by the BBC as a showcase of excellence in education.
